The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) says that displaced people in Yemen are suffering from heavy rains and storm.

"Heavy rains, powerful winds… make life even worse for those without a proper roof over their heads," Jean-Nicolas Marti, the head of delegation of the ICRC in Yemen, said on Thursday.

"Many people are destitute, having had to flee their homes because of fighting.

They are unable to return and struggling to survive as best as they can," he added.

Last year, northern Yemen was the scene of bloody clashes between Houthi fighters and Saudi-backed Yemeni troops.

The Houthis agreed to a truce after Saudi troops withdrew in February 2010.

In July, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees voiced concern about the situation of the internally displaced persons.

Over the past month, rains have triggered sporadic floods in the east and north of the country, making some roads unusable and cutting off whole communities from each other.
