A U.S.-bound parcel bomb that was intercepted and defused in England late last month could have been in Canadian airspace when it detonated.

The parcel — sent from Yemen with Chicago as its ultimate destination — arrived at East Midlands Airport in central England with explosives hidden in a printer cartridge.

Had the explosive devise not been found, it would gone off at 5:30 a.m. ET on Oct. 29, British police said Wednesday.

"If the device had not been removed from the aircraft the activation could have occurred over the eastern seaboard of the U.S.," Metropolitan Police said in a statement.

But UPS flight 232 does not always take the same route, according to an online flight monitor.

Several of the paths indicated by flightaware.com — including the one planned for Oct. 29 — fly over Canada, passing by Newfoundland and Labrador, Quebec and parts of Ontario, before landing in Philadelphia.

The bomb was one of two explosive parcels destined for synagogues in Chicago. The other package was intercepted at an airport in Dubai.
