Signing GCC deal may be signed in Sana’a
The GCC chief Abdulaltif Al Zayani will visit Sana’a again to help the conflicting Yemeni parties to sign a deal that would see President Ali Abdullah Saleh step down in one month, said a statement at the end of a meeting of the GCC foreign ministers late Sunday.
Al Zayani was in Sana’a Saturday to have the parties sign the deal but a last minute snag happened when the opposition insisted on President Saleh to sign first.
President Saleh preferred to approve the deal after the opposition coalition (JMPs) signed on one hand and his party signed on the other.
“undoubtedly Saleh would sign, but in his palace in Sana’a after the two the parties (his party and opposition) signed,” said a senior official who preferred not to be named.
Earlier Sunday, the opposition leaders threatened to join the streets protesters who refuse the US-backed and Saudi-led GCC deal from the beginning.
“We’ll take our blankets and joinn the youth in the streets,” said Mohammed Qahtan, the spokesman of the Islamist-led opposition coalition which includes Islamists , Socialists, and Nasserites.
The young people in the sit-in squares totally refuse and deal or dialogue and demand only the immediate ouster of President Saleh.
But, it’s locally known, that the majority of young people belong to the opposition parties especially the Islamist party, Islah, which means they would follow their parties at end if a deal
is reached.
