Three police men were killed and the fourth was injured when three gunmen threw hand grenades and opened fire at an ambulance patrolling in the city of Zinjubar, the capital of Abyan province, south of Yemen, official and hospital sources said Thursday.
The police men, Nasser Ahmed Al Faqee, 25, Alaw Al Rabahi, 26, Hadi Al Ramadi, 25, were killed and Abdullah Al Atori, was injured, three gunmen attacked the car of the police, said the website of the Yemen’s ruling party.
The attackers who used motorcycles escaped immediately after the operation.
The security force are chasing the attackers who are believed to be Al Qaeda members, said the website quoting an unidentified security official from Abyan.
Sources from Al Razi hospital, in Ghanfar, close to Zinjubar, confirmed that they received three dead bodies and one lightly injured from the police.
On July 14, a group of gunmen believed to be Al Qaeda attacked the offices of intelligence and general security in Zinjubar, killing two soldiers and injuring several others. One of the attackers was killed in that operation.
