By Nasser Arrabyee/04/05/2011

At least 10 people including five soldiers were killed and more than 20 were injured when gunmen believed to be Al Qaeda members attacked two security patrols in the southern province of Abyan, security sources and eyewitnesses said Wednesday.

The bloody attack in the province of Abyan, which was declared as an Islamic state by Al Qaeda, came only one day after some of Al Qaeda leaders in the south vowed to take revenge for their top leader Osama bin Laden who was killed by the American earlier this week in Pakistan.

The eyewitnesses said masked gunmen believed to be Al Qaeda operatives fired RPG missile to a patrol car in the market of Qat in Zinjubar, the capital of Abyan late this afternoon, killing four soldiers and injuring two others.

The same gunmen fired at another patrol car which came to help the first one killing one soldier and injuring two others.

Al Qaeda suspects then fired randomly at the people in the market of Qat killing three persons and injuring about 20 others.

The eyewitnesses said that Al Qaeda operatives started to fire randomly at the people in the market because they were following some soldiers who escaped from the second patrol car after the attack.

On Sunday May 1st, 2011, three soldiers were killed and four others injured when Al Qaeda operatives attacked the headquarters of the local government in Zinjubar.

Last Monday, An Al Qaeda operative called Adel Al Awlaki, was killed and a soldier and citizen were killed when security forces in Zabid city in the province of Hodeida clashed with a group of Al Qaeda members.

On Friday, a four-member Al Qaeda cell was arrested in Duraima district in Hodeida also with weapons and explosives in their possession according to security sources and local tribal leaders.
