By Nasser Arrabyee/11/02/2010

A total of 10 teachers were killed and 15 others in injured in different attacks by Al Houthi rebels on dozens of schools in Sa'ada, said an official Thursday.

Mohammed Al Shamiri, director of education in Sa'ada governorate, said his office received reports that 10 teachers were killed and 15 others injured in addition to unspecified number of students who were killed or injured since the beginning of the war with Al Houthi rebels in August 10, 2009.

The official said that four schools were destroyed and all other schools in the areas under the control of the rebels were turned to barricades.

The schools in the areas under the control of the government or tribesmen loyal to the government were almost all turned to refugee camps for those who escaped the war, the official added.

Before the war erupted last August, the rebels took control over about 30 schools dismissing all teachers and replacing them with ones believing in Al Houthi ideology. The new teachers replaced the national anthem with Al Houthi slogan: God is great, death to America, death to Israel, curse to Jews, and victory to Islam.

  1. Salam, I will say again that I am gratefull for the insight that your paper brings to the public. I am truly upset, about this artcle.I do not understand this seperate tribal thing. I also do not like the negitive imapact you put on the Islam faith. You need to be angry with you currupted leaders. I understand your anger, with the many issues you are facing. Lets face it , you have been kept in the middle ages for way to long. There are water issues, education issues, and serious human rights being viloated by your leaders. Yet, you would jeapordize the lives of your own Yemen people. Please stop all this hatred, you are all Yemeni, you should join together to fight, the real enemy, your leaders. Demand change, and please, stop taking innocent lives. Are you that far behind society that you do not realize that you can have tolerance and live together. It is how we co-exist in this world. My husband has recently returned to Yemen, and I grow more concerned everyday. I ask you to realize that you fighting each other is not the answer. All Tribes. Stand together in Yemen, for real change ,or you will surley be left in the dark ages of long ago.
